The Eternal Presence

Poem By Pinakini Karnik

The Eternal Presence

When the earth was bare
and life was rare

In arid lands and meadows afar, where there wasn’t a hymn nor a sound-
And on lifeless mountain peaks that are now flocked by pilgrims all year round
Aeons ago, when there wasn’t a crimson patch on the land so free-
and there was just love as far as one could see

He was there, and so he’ll remain
He who resides in you and me
and in the universe’s every joy and pain
He who remains with you and me;

He still wanders for that love
On the earth once bare
And life; still rare
